Detailed Solution

An object is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a convex lens of focal length 8 cm. The distance of the object from the lens is 12 cm . Nature of the image will be real and inverted.
Object distance, u=-12 cm,
Focal length f=+8 cm “Using lens formula,
1f=1v-1u
Where v is the distance of the image from the lens, u is the distance of the object from the lens, and f is the focal length of the lens.”
18=1v-1(-12)
v=+24 cm.
Now, Magnification, m=vu
m=vu
m=24-12
m=-2 The negative sign shows that the image is real and inverted.
