Detailed Solution

An object of mass 2 kg is thrown vertically upwards with an initial velocity 20 m/s. The potential energy at the end of 2 s is 400 J.
Mathematically, Potential energy (P.E.) can be expressed as
P.E.=mgh
Where m is the mass of the object, g is the acceleration due to gravity and h is the height of the object.
It has been given that,
the mass is (m)=50 kg and
the gravitational acceleration is (g)=-10 m/s2. (- sign, as acceleration is acting downward)
Time taken (t)=2 s
Initial velocity (u)=20 m/      Using the second equation of motion, the height after 2 seconds
h=ut+12gt2
h=(20×2)+12×(-10)×22
h=20 m
Therefore, potential energy of the object after 2 s will be
P.E.=2×10×20 J
P.E.=400 J
