Mendeleev proposed a periodic table on the basis of increasing atomic weights of elements.
But he placed some higher atomic weight elements before the lower weight atomic elements in order to maintain a group of elements having similar chemical nature. Such pairs are called inverted or anomalous pairs. Some of examples of such pairs are Co-Ni, Te-I.
