Anschluss, is known as a political union between Germany and Austria.
A pro-nazi organisation attempted to overthrow the Austrian government in July 1934. The coup was organised in Germany with the support of German authorities and Hitler's consent. Although the organisation managed to kill Austria's chancellor, the plan was unsuccessful because Austria's military chiefs refused to back the takeover as the Nazis had intended. Von Schuschnigg demanded a nationwide plebiscite, or vote, for Sunday, March 13, so Austrians could determine for themselves whether they wanted their country to stay independent or join the Third Reich. Without encountering any opposition, German forces crossed the border into Austria. The annexation was legally accepted by Austria's parliament. Austria therefore, became a part of Germany.
