Detailed Solution

The Antyodaya Anna Yojana was launched in December 2000.
1)      Through the implementation of the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) in June 1997, an effort was made to streamline the PDS based on proposals made at the Chief Ministers' Conference held in July 1996.
2)      The Antyodaya Anna Yojana was introduced in December 2000 to help the TPDS become more concentrated and targeted toward the underprivileged.
3)      The plan calls for identifying 10 million low-income people and giving them 25 kg of food per family each month at a low cost of Rs 2/kg for wheat and Rs 3/kg for rice.
4)      Starting in April 2002, the quantity was raised from 25 to 35 kg. The expected annual foodgrain allotment for Antyodaya families is 30 lakh tonnes, with a subsidy of Rs 2,315 crore.
