Apartheid was the name of a system of racial discrimination unique to South Africa.
The system of apartheid divided the people based on their skin colour. The white rulers of South Africa treated all non-whites as inferior, which included the natives of South Africa who were labelled Blacks and people of mixed races who were termed as Coloured. The non-whites did not have voting rights, could not form associations or protest, and were forbidden to use all public places.
