Areolar tissue and adipose tissue are examples of loose connective tissue.

Loose connective tissues have cells and fibres loosely arranged in a semifluid matrix. They are of two types:

  1. Areolar tissue - present under the skin and supports epithelium. They play a role in repairing the tissue and providing support to internal organs.
  2. Adipose tissue - present under the skin and store fat. They act as shock absorbers and help in maintaining body temperature during cold weather.
