Artificial selection or selective breeding is a technique used by man to identify and select a few desirable traits in plants and animals and obtain offspring with those desired traits. This enhances those traits in future generations. 

E.g. selective breeding of wild cabbage for obtaining kohl rabi (swollen parts), cabbage (reduced stem growth), broccoli (arrested flower growth), cauliflower (sterile flower), etc.
