Aryans referred to their opponents as dDasas or Dasyus.
In Rigveda, several terms have been widely used to identify various individuals based on their line of employment or other contributions to the community at the time. As a result, it has been noticed that the authors of the hymns referred to themselves as Aryas and their opponents as Dasas or Dasyus. These were non-sacrifice makers who most likely spoke various languages. Dasa (and its feminine counterpart, Dasi) later came to indicate slave. Women and men who were seized during battle often became slaves. They were treated as the owners' property, and their owners had the power to have them perform any tasks they desired.
