Ashoka was one of the most fabulous kings in history; he was from the Maurya dynasty and had put messages and instructions on pillars and rock surfaces. Our currency's (notes and coins) depictions of lions have a rich history. They were positioned on a huge pillar carved out of stone at Sarnath. The ancient name for Orissa's coastline region was Kalinga. Ashoka waged a battle to subjugate Kalinga. He chose not to participate in any further battles since he was shocked by the killing and brutality. He is the first king to renounce conquest after victory in battle. Hence the answer is Kalinga.
