A large number of the Peninsular rivers are seasonal because they receive water from the rain. Two groupings of the river make up the Indian drainage system. They do not originate from glaciers and are not perennial like the rivers of the Himalayas. They are seasonal rivers whose only source of flow is rain. East Flowing and West Flowing rivers make up each of the rivers in peninsular India.
