Both Assertion and Reason are true, and Reason is not the correct explanation of Assertion.
The diverse population of Belgium had Dutch speakers in the majority as they formed about 59 per cent of the overall population. If they had wanted to use their numbers to establish the supremacy of their community, they could have easily done so even through democratically elected governments. However, this was not the case. The Dutch speakers were dissatisfied because they had late access to education and other opportunities. In Sri Lanka, Sinhala speakers comprised about 74 per cent of the population. Since they had an even more significant majority, they could also assert their dominance. This is exactly what the leaders of the Sinhala community did after independence.
