As the pressure is inversely proportional to the area, so, even for smaller value of area, pressure will be large.

So, pins are made to have pointed tip to maximize the pressure at the tip of the pin. Due to the pointed end (small area) even for small forces applied, large pressure will be exerted at the surface.
