The Act of Union (1707) was a legal agreement between England and Scotland. The "United Kingdom of Great Britain" was established as a result of the Act of Union in 1707. Earlier, the Kingdom of Scotland and the Kingdom of England were two separate countries ruled by the same person. The United Kingdom of Great Britain was formed by combining these two countries. This Act allowed England to establish control over Scotland, so Englishmen began to predominate in the British parliament.
