When the currency lost its value many middle-class people including salaried employees and pensioners saw their savings getting drained. Workers lost their jobs or were paid less. Business got ruined for many small businessmen, self-employers, and retailers. Only organized workers were able to meet the two ends. The sharp fall in the price of agricultural products adversely affected the peasant section. Even the big merchants did not escape. The women were worried about how to fill their children’s stomachs.
