As the new demand in the world market was growing too much with the initial export of books and manuscripts, the booksellers were not able to meet the high demand of the people. All the techniques like copying manuscripts, as well as woodblock printing, failed to meet the demand. More importantly, the copying of manuscripts requires a lot of time as well as tenacity. This led to the invention of the New Printing Press by Johann Gutenberg in the 1430s. With his expertise in craftsmanship and his knowledge of wine and olive presses, he developed a perfect printing machine in 1448. With the help of that machine, he published 180 copies of the bible.
