Kanyakumari is a district located in the far south, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The southernmost point of India is Indra Point in this district, a submerged lighthouse. The southern part of India is located quite close to the Equator at 6° N. At the equator, the sun is overhead at noon and the region receives direct rays of the sun. For this reason, the duration of day and night is almost equal. Being close to the Equator, Kanyakumari has the least difference between day and night since the difference is not much noticed.
