National Assembly feared rich business people who depended on the slavery business to get their income. They were relying on the slaves for their work and earning income for them.
The National Assembly needed to frame laws against the opposition party of businessmen but was afraid to formulate them. Slavery existed in France. They were exploited, as they were burdened with overwork and were not given desirable incentives. They were also treated badly by the business people. The rich business people also exploited them by selling them to other business people for profit. The National Assembly tried to frame laws in favor of them and protect them.
