Detailed Solution

The local self-government in villages consists of three levels i.e. Gram Panchayat at the village level, Panchayat Samiti at the Block level, and Zila Parishad at the District level. The Zila Parishad is the highest level of government at the local level. The chairperson of Zila Parishad is elected indirectly. They act as the political head of the local government. For urban areas, there are three levels according to the size of the locality. These are Nagar Panchayats, Municipalities, and Municipal Corporations. The political head of a Municipality is called the Municipal Chairperson while the head of a Municipal Corporation is called the Mayor.
