Detailed Solution

Haloform reaction uses to analyze the methyl group that is directly attached to the carbonyl carbon atom in aldehydes and ketones. During haloform reaction, aldehydes or ketones treated with NaOH/X2 and the formation of CHX3 ppt indicates that the respective aldehyde or ketone shows haloform reaction.

Acetic acid cannot show a haloform reaction because, in the presence of alkali, it behaves as acid. Therefore, it cannot show a haloform reaction. Acetone has three alpha hydrogens.
