Detailed Solution

Both Assertion and Reason are true, and Reason is the correct explanation of the Assertion.
Assertion: Carbon (C) is the only non-metal which is more reactive than hydrogen. So when carbon is reacted with water, it displaces hydrogen and forms acidic oxides. Carbon is the one and only non-metal which forms acidic oxides. When carbon burns in the presence of oxygen, carbon dioxide (CO2), an acidic oxide, is created. Hence carbon in its aqueous solution turns blue litmus into red.
C+ O2CO2
Reason: Oxides that are not metallic have an acidic character. When dissolved in water, they produce an acidic solution that turns the blue litmus solution red. Carbonic acid (H2CO3) and sulphuric acid, for instance, react with water when non-metal oxides like CO2 and SO2 are present (H2SO4).
