Detailed Solution

The Peninsular Plateau is a flatland of old crystalline, igneous, and metamorphic rocks. It is one of the ancient land masses on the earth's surface as it was formed due to the breaking and drifting of the Gondwana land. It consists of two divisions: the Central Highlands and the Deccan Plateau. The Narmada river forms the southern part of the Peninsular Plateau. The eastern extensions of this plateau are known as Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand. The Black soil area of the Peninsular Plateau is known as Deccan Trap. The western and northwestern margins of the Peninsular Plateau are surrounded by the Aravalli hills and also known as broken hills, due to high erosion. Therefore, both assertion and reason are true and but the reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
