Detailed Solution

Concept- In double displacement reaction, the two ionic compounds react and their ions interchange to form a new set of ionic compounds.
If during a double displacement reaction, a solid product is formed, it is also called precipitation reaction.
Now, barium chloride solution reacts with sulphuric acid and this reaction leads to the formation of a white precipitate of barium sulphate. It is a type of double displacement reaction.
<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><msub><mi>BaCl</mi><mn>2</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>+</mo><mo> </mo><msub><mi mathvariant="normal">H</mi><mn>2</mn></msub><msub><mi>SO</mi><mn>4</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>→</mo><mo> </mo><msub><mi>BaSO</mi><mn>4</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>+</mo><mo> </mo><mn>2</mn><mi>HCl</mi></math>But, when barium chloride react with nitric acid, barium nitrate is produced which is soluble in solution and hence does not appear as a precipitate:
<math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><msub><mi>BaCl</mi><mn>2</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>+</mo><mo> </mo><mn>2</mn><msub><mi>HNO</mi><mn>3</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>→</mo><mo> </mo><mi>Ba</mi><msub><mfenced><msub><mi>NO</mi><mn>3</mn></msub></mfenced><mn>2</mn></msub><mo> </mo><mo>+</mo><mo> </mo><mn>2</mn><mi>HCl</mi></math>Also, when barium chloride reacts with HCl, no reaction will occur. Hence, no change is observed during the reaction.
Therefore, both assertion and reason statements are true and reason is the correct explanation for assertion.
Hence, the correct answer is 1.
