Detailed Solution

According to Boyle’s law

P1V1=P2V2=Constant

Let the initial volume of gas be V.

When volume is decreased by 5%, then

V2=V(V×5100)=VV20=19V20

 From Boyle’s equation,

P1×V=P2×19V20

P2=P1×V19V20=20P119

Increase in pressure =P2P1=20P119P1 =20P119P119=P119

Percentage increase in pressure =P119×P1×100

=10019=5.26% .
