Menopause is the time in a woman's life when monthly cycles of menstruation cease forever and the level of hormones (estrogens) produced by the ovaries decreases. Menopause usually occurs in the late 40s or early 50s. When estrogen production falls a critical value, estrogens can no longer inhibit the production of the gonadotropins - FSH and LH. Instead, the gonadotropins FSH and LH (mainly FSH) are produced after menopause in large and continuous quantities and these (mainly FSH) are excreted out in the urine.
