Detailed Solution

At present, there are about 130 million hectares of degraded land in India. Land degradation refers to the phenomenon of land quality declining due to various reasons. The increasing global population has led to the clearing of forest cover for construction and cultivational purposes. The major natural agents of land degradation are air, wind, and water. Over the last few years, the rate of degradation has increased owing to deforestation, overgrazing, and climatic conditions like landslides and floods. Desertification is another reason for land degradation.
