Detailed Solution

Sinhala and Tamil are both the official languages of Sri Lanka.
At present, Sinhala and Tamil are the two official languages of Srilanka. Sinhalese took several majoritarian actions after independence to establish Sinhalese dominance. In 1956, Sinhala was the only official language of Sri Lanka, and in 1987, the Tamil language was also declared the official language of Sri Lanka. It is mentioned in part IV of the 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka. Hence, both Sinhala and Tamil are considered national languages.
