At St. Petersburg, workers on strike demanded a reduction in the working hours to Eight hours.
Due to the increased agitation between workers, around 110,000 workers in St Petersburg went on strike, demanding a reduction in working hours to 8 hours and an increase in wages. The police started to attack; even the soldiers started firing toward the crowd. According to estimation, more than 100 workers were killed, and 300 were wounded. This very incident is known as Bloody Sunday. The Prices of essential goods rose to an impossible level for workers to afford. The wages of the workers at the same time were reduced by 20 per cent. This resulted in the rise of workers joining associations. The very incident of Black Sunday led to events that occurred during the Russian Revolution.
