In 327–325 BC, Alexander the Great invaded India. When he first arrived in Punjab, he engaged in a roughly 19-month war with the authorities. He assigned a few Greek governors to several districts after restoring the Indian leaders who had recognised his authority, but his army was unable to conquer Magadha. Magadha was ruled by Dhana Nand at the time of Alexander's conquest. When Alexander invaded Magadha, the Nanda Dynasty was in power. Dhana Nand, the final king of the Nanda dynasty, was in charge.
