Detailed Solution

An object be placed at 100 cm from the pole of a converging mirror of focal length 20 cm so that the size of the real image formed will be 14th the size of the object.
As the size of the image is 14 times than the size of the object, magnification(m) will be -14 (because the image formed is real).
By magnification formula, we get
m=-vu
 -14=-vu
u=4v
Now, substituting the value of u in mirror formula for calculating the distance of the object
1f=1u+1v
 1(-20)=14v+1v
 1(-20)=54v
 4v=-100
 v=-25 cm
Substituting the value of v in u, we get
u=4v
 u=4-25
 u=-100 cm
So, the object should be placed at 100 cm from the mirror.
