Detailed Solution

The first Spinning and Weaving mill was set up in 1874 in Madras (Chennai).
The first cotton mill in India, built-in 1854 in Bombay, laid the groundwork for India's textile industry. Four mills were in operation by the end of 1862. These mills housed 94 000 spindles, and 2150 looms. During the same period, jute mills were developed in Bengal. The first mill was constructed in 1855, followed by the second in 1862. In the 1860s, the Elgin mill was established in Kanpur, which resulted in Ahmedabad's first cotton mill. The first spinning and weaving mills in Madras opened in 1874. As colonial power expanded, so did Indian trade. Traders were only allowed to carry the raw materials needed by British citizens.
