"The property of bending of light when it reaches the atmosphere where the refraction occurs is called atmospheric refraction." Due to the refraction, the light rays reach two minutes before sunrise, called advanced sunrise. Similarly, sunset takes place after two minutes of actual sunset, called delayed sunset.
Sunrise occurs when the sun reaches just above the horizon. Sunset takes place when the sun reaches just below the horizon. Hence the atmosphere refraction causes advanced sunrise and delayed sunset.
