The Quit India Movement is also known as the August Kranti Movement.
On August 8, 1942, Mahatma Gandhi started the Bharat Chhodo Andolan, or Quit India movement, with the motto "do or die." The failure of the Cripps Mission served as the movement's immediate cause. The mission was dispatched by Stafford Cripps to address the Indian issue of a new constitution and self-government. It failed because it offered India not complete freedom but the Dominion Status to India, along with the partition.
