Aurangzeb killed his brother Dara Shukoh during a conflict over succession. This happened in the last years of the reign of Shah Jahan. In 1657 - 1658, a conflict over succession of the throne was inflicted between the sons of the Mughal Emperor, Shah Jahan. The conflict took a violent and drastic turn. Aurangzeb proved to be victorious and all of his three brothers, including Dara Shukho, who was going to be thrown according to the will of the emperor, lost their lives. He also sent his father, Shah Jahan, to a prison in Agra where he could see the Taj Mahal, the monument he built for his beloved wife.
