Detailed Solution

Aurangzeb was an orthodox Sunni Muslim.
From 1658 to 1707, Aurangzeb, the final of the great Mughal rulers, ruled over India. Although his policies contributed to the Mughal Empire's collapse, it was during his reign that it attained its greatest size. The third child of Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal was Aurangzeb. He was raised as a serious-minded, devoted young man who was committed to the Muslim orthodoxy of the time and free of the sensuality and inebriation that were characteristic of the regal Mughals. Generally speaking, Aurangzeb reigned as a militant, orthodox Sunni Muslim; he enacted more and more puritanical laws that were zealously upheld by mutasibs, or moral censors. For example, the Muslim confession of religion was removed from all coinage so that it wouldn't be contaminated by non-Muslims.
