Baba Ramchandra led the movement of non-cooperation against the landlords and the talukdars for the peasants who belonged to Awadh. The panchayats helped him to organise the ‘nai-dhobi bandh’ to deprive the services of barbers and washermen to the landlords. As a result, the ‘Oudh Kisan Sabha’ was set up, and several of its branches opened in many regions that joined the non-cooperation movement led by Baba Ramchandra. However, under the leadership of Baba Ramchandra, violent protests also broke out where houses of talukdars and merchants were attacked, bazaars were looted, and grain hoards were taken over. Thus, expressing their discontent over the issues caused by the rents imposed on them.
