The Mughal Emperor Babur defeated the Rajput Confederacy in the Battle of Khanwa, solidifying Mughal rule while squelching resurgent Rajput power as the battle for control of Northern India between Rajputs and Mughals raged on. The Battle of Chanderi, also known as the Siege of Chanderi, took place in the aftermath of this victory. After learning that Rana Sanga was making new war preparations to fight him again, Babur decided to isolate Rana by defeating Medini Rai, the ruler of Malwa, one of his vassals. On March 16, 1527, Khanwa, which is 60 kilometers west of Agra, saw the Battle of Khanwa. The Rajputs and Babur's Timurid invasion armies engaged in combat.
