Few seeds from a successful crop were set aside each year. Bajra crop was passed down through the generations in this way. The dried gourd (lauki), which was covered in mud, was used to store good seeds. Over time, seeds were kept in strong wooden boxes. To keep insects away from the seeds, neem leaves were placed. Different seeds were placed in the many sections of the box.
