Detailed Solution

The Act, which was passed in Sri Lanka, made the Tamilian population of the country suffer. In 1956, the government of Srilanka passed an act according to which the Sinhala language was recognised as the only official language of Srilanka. This harmed the Tamilian population, and the Tamil language had to suffer too. The reason behind this was that the government favoured the Sinhala community and their language and culture because they were the majority in the country. This meant a surplus of votes. On the other hand, Tamilians form only a minority in Srilanka.
