Detailed Solution

Before partition,  Bengal included parts of Odissa and Bishar. Viceroy Curzon partitioned Bengal in 1905. Bengal was the largest province of British India at the time. Bihar and a portion of Orissa were included. The partition of Bengal was attributed to administrative convenience. However, most analysts feel that the separation was carried out to divide the Bengali population and lessen the influence of Bengali politicians. Bengal's split incited outrage among citizens of all of India. Every segment of Congress opposed it. Large public gatherings and protests were held in opposition to the choice. The Swadeshi Movement became the name for the protests against the division of Bengal.
