Gangadhar Bhattacharya brought out Bengal Gazette in 1780.
The Bengal Gazette, a weekly publication that defined itself as "a business paper open to all, but influenced by none," was first edited by James Augustus Hickey starting in 1780. There were several printed newspapers and journals at the end of the eighteenth century in India. Indian newspapers were also published by some Indians. Gangadhar Bhattacharya was, a close friend of Rammohun Roy.
