Besides Hindi, there are 21 other languages recognised by the Indian Constitution. The Indian Constitution has recognised 22 languages as Scheduled Languages under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Hindi is the official language of India, mentioned under Article 343(1) of the Constitution. The other 21 languages recognised as Scheduled Languages are- Assamese, Bengali, Bodo, Dogri, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Maithili, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Santhali, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu. The languages listed under the Eighth Schedule can be opted to conduct exams at the central level. These languages can also be used as the state's official language.
