Detailed Solution

Bigha refers to the unit of measurement of land.
It was a traditional unit of land and varied in different regions. It had no fixed measurement. The peasants measured their land in bigha. They considered that one bigha of land required two ploughs for cultivation. As the British began to administer the land to acquire land revenue, they felt a need to identify the measurement system of the land. It was standardised by the British in Bengal and Bihar to be one-third of an acre. They used this system to fix the land revenue of a particular region under their revenue settlement.
