Detailed Solution

Bombay and Calcutta ports grew during the colonial period. These ports were the developing centres. Transportation services from the ports to the places which provided raw materials were well connected. The introduction of railways in India connected the areas so that the movement of raw materials took place at a fast pace. Moreover, the ports had the availability of raw materials and cheap labour, as India was one of the most populous countries in the world. Calcutta port had links to Southeast Asia, and Bombay port connected Europe through the Middle East as Indian goods were in demand worldwide, especially in Europe.
