Detailed Solution

Both Houses of Parliament approved the Consumer Protection Bill, 1986, reserving the rights of consumers, and on December 24, 1986, the President gave his consent. It entered into force as THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT, 1986, in the Statutes Book (68 of 1986). It aims to better protect consumer interests and, to that end, makes provisions for creating customer councils and other agencies for resolving disputes and related matters. The Consumer Protection Council, which will be constituted at the state and central level, aims to promote and safeguard these.
