Hitler held a passionate interest in the budding minds of the country. He believed that to build a strong nation, and he had to start by teaching children about Nazism and Nazi ideology. The children had to be taught inside and outside school, which required control on the Nazis’ part. Schools were firstly “cleansed” or “purified,” so no teacher or student who belonged to the category of Jews, Poles, Gypsies, or the physically or mentally challenged remained behind. These “undesirable” folks were thrown out and, in the 1940s, taken to gas chambers. Nazi schooling was a period of intense ideological training. Boys had to start at the age of six with preliminary training and continue until ten before entering Jungvolk.
