${\mathrm{Br}}_2+2{\mathrm{H}}_2\mathrm{O}+{\mathrm{SO}}_2\to 2\mathrm{HBr}+{\mathrm{H}}_2{\mathrm{SO}}_4$

In the above chemical reaction Sulphur gets oxidized from +4 to +6. When the bromine reacts with ${\mathrm{SO}}_2$ , it oxidises to form sulphuric acid.

Oxidation state of bromine changes from 0 to –1.
