Brussels has its own government, with equal representation for both groups. Because the Dutch-speaking community accepted equal participation in the Central Government, the French-speaking community accepted equal representation in Brussels. Hence in addition to the Central and State governments, there is also a third type of government. People who speak a single language - Dutch, French, or German - regardless of where they live to elect this 'community government.' This government is in charge of cultural, educational, and linguistic issues. Many powers of the federal government have been delegated to state governments in the country's two regions. State governments do not report to the Central Government.
