Detailed Solution

Buddhacharita was composed by Ashvagosha, who was also a court poet in the court of Kanishka, the Kushan king. Ashvagosha was also a philosopher, dramatist, poet, and orator. Ashvagosha was considered the greatest Indian poet before Kalidas, who used Sanskrit first to write his dramas. BuddhaCharita, written by Ashvagosha, was written in classic Sanskrit, but before Ashvagosha, the play was written in Pali and Prakrit. His book Buddhacharita contained the Nobel doctrines of Buddha teaching. Buddhacharita was composed in the court of King Kanishka, the ruler of the Kushana dynasty, around 1900 years ago. King Kanishka was also a great patron of Buddhism and donated many lands to the Buddhist monks.
