These caves were made out of the hills and mountains of the Western Ghats for the monks and Buddhist followers to live in. It is known that most of these caves were made by merchants and Kings to get the blessings of Lord Buddha. The specialty of these Caves was that many important roads connected the cave routes to prosperous ports on the Western coasts with the famous cities in the Deccan region. And historians think that these traders used to take a rest in these Caves during their traveling period.
